Chimineas

Chimeneas originated in Mexico, and the word chimenea actually means chimney in Spanish. Many people in the UK, who don't realise the origins of the word chimenea, refer to these outdoor stoves as a chiminea, even chiminia, chimnea, or chimnia.

Our cast metal chimineas are of a very high quality so will give you many years of pleasure. They have been endorsed by Coalite to be suitable for standing up to the high temperatures produced when burning smokeless fuels.

We have a choice of both cast iron and cast aluminium chimineas. Each chiminea is painted with Stovebright high temperature paint and comes with a standard heavy duty grate, a mesh door, chimney spark arrester and a cooking grate.

Why you should consider a cast metal chiminea:

  • A cast chiminea gets hot on the outside unlike a clay one, it therefore gives out a lot of radiated heat that is good for sitting round on a cool summer's evening.
  • Cast metal chimineas are very unlikely to crack - whereas clay ones can crack with excessive heat, so the expected life span for a cast chiminea is much longer.
  • Cast metal chimineas are frost proof so you do not need to store them inside over the winter or worry if they get wet. You do need to be aware that cast iron chimineas will rust if exposed to wet weather but they can be resprayed with high temperature paint or you can use a raincover.
  • A cast metal chiminea is suitable for burning both wood and coal.

Should I go for a cast iron or cast aluminium chiminea?

To help you choose which is the best material for you - here are some facts:

  • Cast iron chimineas will last a very long time & will provide a big heat output.
  • Cast iron WILL rust when exposed to weather. Some people like this rustic appeal - others respray their chiminea once a year to keep it looking as good as new.
  • Cast aluminium is more expensive than cast iron but will not rust
  • A cast aluminium chiminea is much easier to move about as it is much lighter, so you can transport it to a different area in the garden to suit the needs of the occasion.
NB - All cast metal chimineas are great outdoor heaters but beware they do get hot.

We recommend that you use a guard to avoid anyone touching it by mistake and burning themselves.

Because they are so good at giving out heat you need to be careful to site your chiminea away from any combustible material.

If you are going to put it on a wooden deck you should first place it on a non combustible surface such as tiles.

Our contemporary steel Garden Stove is like a chiminea but of a very modern design.
